War on Drugs
If the War on Drugs started in what, the Clinton Administration, and our drug policy is just now making an impact, how long is this War on Terror going to take?

Clinton!!! Durn Whippersnapper young-uns. Try Roosevelt. 1937, to be exact. That's when the Religious inverts got the law behind faith-based incarceration for Marijuana. Of course drugs with political dollars like tobacco and alcohol were exempt. But anything else, no matter home harmless, was from that point on fought with religious intensity.
I first heard the exact phrase "War on Drugs" during the Reagan years. Since the Reagans served booze in the White house, and heroin was unpopular at the time, "drugs" was widely understood to be Wingnut code for 'Pot & Coke'."
The drug war was a total failure at discouraging drug use, but this was not it's goal. It was wildly profitable for organized crime, who gave generously to politicians who supported their livelihoods. It also allowed these politicians, many of whom had no real ideas or issues, to try to paint the "drug war" as pro-family and patriotic.
As the comic suggests, none of this sound & fury made a dent in long-term drug use. The "Was on Terror" is pretty much the same old BS.
Sah, I totally forgot about the Nancy Reagan "just say no" thing. Oh my. So if the War on Drugs began in '37, and it's just now seeing results..
Granted, we *have* wasted a lot more money on this War on Terror.
