Next up: Jenna Bush, Ambassador to Lebanon

I can't believe that President Bush has the cajones to pratice blatant cronyism less than a month after his buddy Michael Brown resigned in disgrace. It would be one thing if his best friend just happened to be a brilliant constitutional lawyer, but Miers has no background in that area.

To be fair, she has managed to keep this putz from getting indicted, so she's got to be good.

Christ. His own personal lawyer. What's he going to do, make his accountant the head of the federal reserve?

Democrats and Republicans alike are calling bullshit for the same reason: lack of access to Miers's records. ('Course, Democrats worry that she's a female Pat Robertson, Republicans worry that she's a closet liberal). Bush even said that one of the perks of choosing somebody who had never been a judge was her lack of written opinions on issues like abortions (see pg 2). Um, why is that a perk? Sounds to me like he's being a secretive little sleazebag. If Bush really wants a dark horse, he should choose somebody at random. I'm serious, just draw lots.

UPDATE: Brilliant at Breakfast points out that Miers was the one who gave Bush that memo about how Osama Bin Laden determined to attack the US. Ooh, weeird.

It's gotta be the right choice if both Republicans AND Democrats are against it!

How do you know? It's not like either of us knows anything about her. (And with this administration's track record of appointments, I assume the worst.)

But, Marie, BOTH PARTIES are against the nod-it must be the right one!

Personally, I think that the Republicans who are throwing a fit are freaking idiots! Democrats are beside themselves with glee-something I don't believe will be sustained, but it reveals the lack of wisdom on the part of Republicans who are itching for a fight.

d. elrod, what are you talking about? Who is "beside himself with glee"? "Beside themselves with glee?" You mean there's chortling and dancing in the streets somewhere that I don't know about?
