And I thought I was bad with money

I'm starting to agree with the White House. We need to stop looking into what went wrong with FEMA. It's revealing a level of incompetence that is just too scary to think about.
Today, it's come out that hundreds of offers of help went unused because FEMA didn't give them any missions. We all know that we didn't accept offers of help from other countries--but this was from other US federal agencies.
It's also come out that almost all of the money that was supposed to be used for rebuilding Iraq was wasted. Inexperience played a role, since working on the Bush campaign doesn't necessarily qualify you to rebuild another country, but we're talking about government waste at the Tammany Hall level. Auditors can't even account for $97 million out of the $120 million allotted for rebuilding. $662,800 was spent repairing an elevator that later sent three people plummeting to their deaths. Money was wasted on no-bid contracts, paying the same person twice for the same job, and paying contractors for half-finished jobs. In the end, $8 million of the $120 million was actually used to rebuild Iraq.
