Those crazy liberals in Vatican City

"If the model proposed by Darwin is not considered sufficient, one should search for another. But it is not correct from a methodological point of view to stray from the field of science while pretending to do science. It only creates confusion between the scientific plane and those that are philosophical or religious."

Another liberal UCLA professor mouthing off? No, it's just the Vatican. Seriously. This isn't a radical change in stance--the Vatican hasn't been against evolution since the 1950s--but this is the first time that they have come out against teaching "intelligent design" as a science. They claim that it has its place in religion and philosophy classes, but it shouldn't be taught in science classes.

It's just weird that, while the Vatican can be pretty backwards, they're at least more progressive than the religious right.

Gott im Himmel! How far the church has fallen. First they get rid of limbo. Now they're dumping on ID? I just can't take it.
