It'll be hard, but I think I can manage.
There's a thousand reasons to boycott Nike, and a million reasons to boycott Microsoft, but the Reverend Hutcherson chose the dumbest one: he's launching a boycott against Microsoft, Boeing, Nike, and HP because they support a gay civil rights bill.
Let's say that tomorrow, the President passed a bill giving gay people the same rights as straight people. They can get married civilly, they can adopt kids, they can do the same stuff that straight people would do. How would this affect people who aren't gay? Why should they even care?
Hutcherson and his "religious consumers" have the right to boycott all they want (I have no idea how they plan on boycotting Boeing, by the way), and I have the right to...well I can't really counter their boycott since I haven't got any money, but I'm going to show my appreciation by not making fun of Microsoft for a month or two.
Hey, that's quite a sacrifice for me.

Someone once said: Always vote. If you can't vote for, vote against, and if you're totally at a loss find a well meaning fool (there's always one around) ask him how he'd vote, and then vote the opposite way. We always need guys like the Rev. Hutcherson to help us to determine how we should spend our money. :-)
I like to take it a step further--when I find these people, I tell them "hey, since I'm going to be cancelling out your vote anyway, how about we both just screw it and watch /Seinfeld/ all night instead?" And then sneak off to the polls while they're in the bathroom.
i see your point but i will still be giving those corporations for the right reasons. this business with the gay rights bill could actually create a little smokescreen to keep people from seeing the real shit that they are up to
Sometimes, a person must give up her morals in order to spite somebody.
that should have read "giving those corporations abuse"
heh. I was thinking Hutcherson maybe ordered his flock not to buy any 787s any time soon, or his sheep could fly only travel on Airbus planes, at least til they find out they're made in FRANCE (booga booga booga!!) by godless socialist sodomite wine-swilling cheese-nibblers.
the only effect these boycott calls will have is getting that asshole's name in the media.
Just think: if this takes off, we're going to have /two/ groups of people self-righeously buying Macs, instead of just one.
(completely unrelated: the randomly assigned word verification for this comment ended up being /spamz/. Weird, eh?)
