Warning: stupid pun ahead.

In spite of "strong economic growth" last year, poverty in the US has increased for the fourth straight year. 12.7% of Americans live in poverty. Damn I'm ignorant. I did not know that so many people lived below the poverty line.
The poverty rate has been going up/holding steady since 2000. I know that the economy went down after September 11th, but with America's booming* weapons sales industry, our economy ought to be going strong.

* I did not mean this to be a pun.

Did you see the spin the Bush adminstration put on that in the NYTimes? You see, the poverty rate isn't really up, it just lagging behind like a reluctant child!

Damn. To dismiss that 12.7% of Americans live in poverty? That is pretty damn cocky.
